BLDC Drivers Take On High-Voltage Applications

To simplify design chores common to mains-powered home appliances and industrial equipment including corded power tools, drives, pumps, fans, and compressors, STMicroelectronics offers the 250V STSPIN32F0251 and STSPIN32F0252, and 600V STSPIN32F0601 and STSPIN32F0602 brushless dc (BLDC) drivers.

The four devices combine three-phase gate drivers and an STM32F0 Arm Cortex-M0 microcontroller to simplify high-voltage BLDC motor drives. They come with control algorithms and application examples including single-shunt and three-shunt field-oriented control (FOC) as well as sensor-based single-shunt and six-step non-sensor control.

Additionally, the devices are pin compatible, allowing reuse of hardware and firmware in products for 110-Vac and 250-Vac operation. The ICs feature a standby mode to help minimize power consumption in idle conditions.

Four inverter evaluation boards are available and fully compatible with X-CUBE-MCSDK (motor control software development kit), starting from 5.4.1 version.

The STSPIN32F0251, STSPIN32F0252, STSPIN32F0601, and STSPIN32F0602 are available in 10 mm x 10 mm TQFPs with pricing starting from $1.84 to $2.09 each/1,000. For more details, a datasheet is available.
