SIM Tech Leaps From 2G To 5G

By Mat Dirjish

Telit’s simWISE module-software embedded SIM technology makes the move from 2G to enable lower costs and mass scalability to 4G cellular IoT, while supporting 5G-ready LTE-M and NB-IoT modules. The technology is a replacement or complement for manufacturers of cellular-connected devices using a traditional SIM card and tray. With its module-software embedded SIM technology, Telit looks to deliver unique iSIM features to its portfolio of cellular IoT modules based on the 9205 LTE modem and the MDM9206 IoT modem from Qualcomm Technologies.

The simWISE integrates identity management technology for LTE-M and NB-IoT connected devices. According to Telit, this reduces the design constraints and reliability issues of removable SIM and tray. It also virtually eliminates logistic costs associated with control, stocking, and shipping of pre-provisioned SIM cards and controls costs created by physical visits to swap SIM cards.
